Stress Induced Junk Food Binge September 22, 2011

UGH!

I feel disgusting.  I had a crazy stressful day at work yesterday and this morning.  And even though I had a strawberry banana smoothie for breakfast and veggie burger with carrots and celery for lunch, by the end of the day I spiraled into the candy crazies.  Digging into the candy jar of one of my co-workers started it.  I tore open about 15 fun-sized candies (Smarties, Lemonheads, jelly beans, and Twizzlers) and then rushed to Stop & Shop for honey barbeque potato chips and some “health food” version of Fruit Loops (like it’s REALLY healthy!).  Got home, crashed on the couch for an hour of toggling between Dr. Oz/Ellen/Judge Judy and two bowls of the mock Fruit Loops with soy milk and half a bag of chips.  I feel disgusting.  My stomach is popping out and I’m sluggish.  Even though I didn’t fall off the wagon with the Vegan Kickstart (I think I’m on day 17) I might as well have with all the crap I put into my body today.

Like I said, UGH!!!

Anyone else have days like this???

Vegan Kickstart September 18, 2011

Greetings, True Believers!  (Yes, I think I’m Stan Lee!)  DreamGeek here.  (More on the screen name later.)  A quick intro to all my fellow plant-based peeps.  Like my partner in crime, Chantal, said:  we’re on a mission to go vegan and stay there.  Hopefully, this is support for each other and anyone else out there going against the grain of popular eating in our culture and trying to live a whole food plant-based lifestyle.

We’re on day 14 of the Vegan Kickstart Challenge and it’s been a lot of fun and I’m learning a lot.  I’m a self professed fast foodie.  Even though I was vegetarian, on average I would go out to eat five or six nights a week.  Turns out a couple months ago I had kidney stones which hurt like hell (my aunt told me that it was more painful to have kidney stones than to give birth!).  I suspect they came from a high sodium fast food diet since I really don’t eat a lot of dairy and I’m pretty much meat free.  Needless to say, I gave birth to a little calcium deposit named Earl!  So for future “birth control” I’m learning to cook my own meals and stock up in the freezer with a lot of homemade soups and bean burgers.  So the Kickstart is good.  And doing it with a friend is better.

Here are some Youtube links to a PBS special by Neal Barnard, MD, the creator of the Kickstart:

So if you’re interested in the Kickstart it’s a great support!

Glad to be a part of this experiment!

Peas and luv,

DreamGeek
